What is Doggie DFACS?
In Coweta County, the Department of Family And Children Services is commonly referred to as DFACS (pronounced Dee Fax). The Good Shepherd Humane Society Doggie DFACS program is similarly designed to help less fortunate animals of our community. When animals are not receiving adequate care due to either their owner's lack of financial ability to provide and/or their lack of understanding about basic pet needs, we are here to help.

Exactly what does Doggie DFACS do?
We will supply a dog house, cedar chips bedding, a cable runner, quality dog food, grooming, and basic medical care if the pet owner is unable to afford these things. Working with another agency, we help pet owners get their pet spayed/neutered if it is needed. In cases where the pet owner would prefer to re-home their pet, we can assist with this. If the pet owner is lacking understanding regarding basic animal care, we will provide education. If sub-standard care is not due to either of these reasons, we refer the case to animal control.

How do you decide which animals need help?
Virtually all our Doggie DFACS animals start with a phone call from the public. Concerned citizens who pass by an animal often call us, asking if there is something we can do to help. Occasionally we receive calls from other agencies who have received calls from their public. In any case, we will help any animal if we have the resources to do so.

How can I get help for a certain dog?
First of all, God bless you for being a compassionate, motivated person. In order to help an animal, we need you to give us some information: (1) the street address and town where the animal is located - if there is no number on the mail box, get the nearest mailbox number and give directions from there; (2) the number of animals involved; (3) exactly what the problem is - food, shelter, confinement, medical condition, etc. (4) your name and phone number which will NOT be given to anyone. You may chose to phone us with this information (770) 463 - 5513 OR you may choose to e-mail us from our E-MAIL section.

How is Doggie DFACS funded?
Dog houses, food, treats, and cedar chips bedding are provided by PETsMART. At this time, runners and all medical care is provided by our Founder/President. We hope to find corporate sponsors from within Coweta and Fayette counties in the near future. Donations from people like you are always appreciated and if earmarked, will go directly to this program.
